Govind Devji Temple

Description

Formerly the idol of Govind Devji temple was placed in the temple of Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh. Raja Sawai Jai Singh, an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna, brought the idol from Vrindavan to Jaipur, and the temple was built in 1735 CE. Raja Sawai Pratap Singh 2 build the temple who was also a devotee of Lord Krishna. Govind Devji temple has equal importance concerning other ancient temples in Jaipur sharing the glimpse of heritage and architectural significance. This temple is among the seven temples of Thakur of Vrindavan including Shri Bankey Bihari Ji, Sri Radhavallabh ji, Shri Govind Dev Ji and four others.

History

According to some legend, Govind Devji came in the dream of Maharaja Swai Jai Singh and asked him to bring his diety Jaipur from Vrindavan. As the order of the God Raja brought the diety and kept it in the City Palace compound of Jaipur.
